## Description

Aena Brasil has run Santarém since November 2023, when the Spanish operator took over a block of eleven Brazilian terminals won at federal auction. Sitting midway between Manaus and Belém at the meeting of the Tapajós and Amazon rivers, it is the chief air gateway to western Pará and the fifth-busiest airport in Brazil's north. Azul, LATAM and GOL fly scheduled services to the major hubs, and its 2,400-metre runway accepts a broad range of aircraft. The airport has no stand-alone cargo terminal with full customs infrastructure, so air freight travels mainly as bellyhold loads such as pharma, spare parts and fresh fish. Bulk consignments for the Amazon basin route through the dedicated facilities at Manaus (MAO), home to a free-trade zone, and Belém (BEL), complemented by the region's heavy river-barge traffic.
