## Description

The name says it all and yet misleads: officially the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri's airport in south-eastern Nigeria's Imo State is in practice a mainly domestic passenger field. No dedicated freight infrastructure or scheduled cargo flights are documented, so the «Cargo» in its title reflects aspiration more than operation. Regional air freight is therefore better handled through nearby Port Harcourt International (PHC), with its NAHCO and SAHCOL terminals, or via Enugu. Commissioned in 1994 and named for Governor Sam Mbakwe, who launched construction in 1983, the airport remains a passenger-first facility. Exporters from Imo State should plan shipments around those larger gateways.
