## Description

Operated by Fraport, the German group behind Frankfurt Airport, Salgado Filho is the principal air-cargo gateway of Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil's southernmost major terminal. In 2023 it processed 72,639 tonnes of freight, dominated by exports of agricultural produce, processed foods and manufactured goods from the surrounding state. Severe flooding in May 2024 shut the airport for months and cut volumes to roughly 11,500 tonnes before the cargo terminal returned to full service later that year. Most freight moves in the bellyholds of LATAM, GOL and Azul, supplemented by dedicated cargo operators. The site connects to the BR-116 and BR-290 highways and lies within reach of the Port of Rio Grande, one of Brazil's largest seaports, enabling combined air-sea-road chains. Customs clearance is handled on-site by Receita Federal. For shippers across the Pampas and the Serra Gaúcha, POA is the natural consolidation point before onward links to São Paulo's Guarulhos and Viracopos hubs.
