## Description

Diving in over the La Tourmente ridge before dropping onto a runway of barely 650 metres that ends almost at the beach, Gustaf III ranks among the Caribbean's trickiest landings. Only short-takeoff STOL types — the DHC-6 Twin Otter, Cessna Caravan and similar aircraft of up to about 19 seats — are certified to use it, so no jet or freighter ever touches down. Saint-Barthélemy is served mainly on inter-island hops from Sint Maarten (SXM) and Saint-Martin/Grand-Case by carriers such as St Barth Commuter and Winair. Heavier goods reach the island by sea through the port of Gustavia, while express air shipments are funnelled via the SXM hub. For freight forwarders, SBH is a passenger and tourism field with no cargo role of its own.
