## Description

Opened in 1929 as Willingdon Airfield, Safdarjung was Delhi's main airport until traffic shifted to Palam in the 1960s. Today the site (ICAO VIDD) is a pure general-aviation aerodrome with no scheduled flights and no IATA code. It is used chiefly for VVIP helicopter movements — including the President and Prime Minister heading to Indira Gandhi International — plus flying-club activity and the occasional special flight. Safdarjung has no cargo role; Delhi's air freight runs entirely through Indira Gandhi International (DEL). For freight forwarders, the site carries no relevance.
