## Description

A UNESCO World Heritage site since 2024 – the Sado gold mines – yet not a single scheduled flight: Sado Airport has been without airline service since 2014, its 890-metre runway too short for most commercial aircraft. Regional start-up Toki Air has studied reviving the Niigata–Sado link with STOL-capable ATR 42s. The island is supplied by jetfoil and car ferry from Niigata, and air freight is handled at Niigata Airport (KIJ).
