## Description

Under a desert sky with just four to eight percent humidity, up to 300 airliners sit wing to wing at the Roswell Air Center, one of the world's largest aircraft storage and reclamation fields. Born from the former Walker Air Force Base – a major Cold War bomber base closed in 1967 – the site today hosts maintenance, long-term parking and scrapping, with operators such as Ascent Aviation Services. There is no scheduled freight or dedicated cargo flying here: aircraft come to rest, not pallets to be loaded. Air-freight shippers route instead through the Albuquerque International Sunport about 320 km to the north-west, with its FedEx, UPS and Amazon services and Foreign-Trade Zone 110. US 285 and US 70 link Roswell – famous worldwide for the alleged 1947 UFO crash – to the wider region.
