## Description

Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport (FCO/LIRF) handled roughly 271,580 tonnes of cargo in 2024, a 43% jump on the previous year, making it the air freight centre for central and southern Italy. Airport operator Aeroporti di Roma invested about €140 million in a new Cargo City sized for some 300,000 tonnes a year — around three times the throughput of the facilities it replaced. It sits in the eastern part of the airport near the long-term car park, with a direct connection to the Rome–Fiumicino expressway and from there to the GRA ring road and the A1 motorway. GSSA and airline cargo offices at the field include Kales Airline Services and Korean Air Cargo. Shippers needing larger volumes or a wider intercontinental freighter offer generally use Milan Malpensa (MXP), Italy's largest cargo airport, while sea-air combinations run via the port of Civitavecchia about 70 km to the northwest.
