## Description

Opened on 22 May 2025, the Baltic Cargo Hub gives Riga Airport (RIX/EVRA) 6,895 square metres of handling space right on the cargo apron and makes Latvia's capital airport the leading air freight location in the Baltic states, which moved 20,100 tonnes in 2025, up 7 percent. The split is unusually even for the region: 51 percent travelled as belly cargo on passenger aircraft, 49 percent on dedicated freighters. Inside the new facility are semi-automatic material handling systems, temperature-controlled rooms for pharmaceuticals, separate areas for dangerous goods, live animals and valuables, integrated food and veterinary inspection, and a customs checkpoint. Rated at 100,000 tonnes a year, the building currently runs at roughly a fifth of capacity — useful headroom for shippers working around congestion elsewhere. The airport sits about 10 kilometres west of the centre on the A10 expressway, and Rail Baltica is building a station at the terminal on the future standard-gauge Tallinn–Riga–Kaunas–Warsaw axis, opening the door to rail-air combinations.
