## Description

Battery components, data-centre hardware and express parcels account for most of what flies out of Reno-Tahoe International (RNO/KRNO), northern Nevada's principal air cargo airport, which handled 83.6 million pounds — about 37,900 tonnes — in 2025. That is roughly 18 percent below the 102.4 million pounds of 2024, as integrators consolidate volumes at their California facilities and much regional freight simply trucks west on I-80. FedEx Express, UPS and DHL serve the field; traffic is overwhelmingly express freight plus belly cargo on passenger flights, and RNO is not a dedicated intercontinental freighter hub. On the passenger side the airport counted more than 4.8 million travellers in 2024, its strongest result in nearly two decades. Its economic anchor is the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center in Storey County, thirty minutes east, where Tesla, Panasonic, Switch, Google and Walmart run manufacturing and distribution. Ground connections are unusually good for a city this size: transcontinental I-80 crosses US-395 here, the Union Pacific Overland Route runs toward California, and Oakland — the nearest seaport — is about four truck hours west over Donner Pass, where winter snow decides which mode arrives first. For widebody or intercontinental capacity, Sacramento (SMF) two hours away and the Bay Area fields SFO and OAK are the practical alternatives. Each late August the airport becomes the main access point for Burning Man charters bound for the Black Rock Desert.
