## Description

Set in the Timna Valley about 18 km north of Eilat on the Red Sea, Ramon International Airport (ETM) opened in 2019 to replace Eilat's old city airport and the Ovda military field for civilian use. Its layout is built around tourism, with charter and scheduled flights — El Al and Israir prominent among them — carrying holidaymakers from Israel and Europe to the southern resorts. Ramon is also Israel's principal diversion airport, taking redirected traffic from Ben Gurion when needed. There is, however, no regular freighter service: while the site has handling areas, the country's air cargo is concentrated at Tel Aviv. Forwarders therefore route imports and exports through Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV, roughly 270 km by road); for southbound sea-air combinations the port of Eilat is the other option worth checking. For the region, ETM remains essentially a tourist entry point rather than a cargo location.
