## Description

Handling up to roughly 1,560 passengers per hour, Aristides Pereira International Airport (BVC) is the third-busiest in Cape Verde and the main entry point for tourists to Boa Vista. About five kilometres southeast of Sal Rei, it was renamed in 2011 after the country's first president, having begun as Rabil Airport. VINCI Airports has run the Cape Verdean airport network under a 40-year concession since July 2023; an initial €80 million modernisation phase is complete and a further €142 million is planned over three years, including a runway extension at Boa Vista. Passenger traffic grew by roughly 60 percent between 2022 and 2025 on the back of 35 new routes. The 2,100-metre runway receives seasonal charter and scheduled flights operated by Transavia, TUI fly and Neos, mostly from European cities. There is no dedicated cargo terminal — the airport handled just 132 tonnes of freight in 2017 — so goods travel as belly load aboard passenger services. Larger airfreight requirements are consolidated via Sal (SID) and Lisbon (LIS).
