## Description

Phase one of Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport (TAO/ZSQD) was designed for 500,000 tonnes of cargo a year; in 2025 it moved 227,086 tonnes, up 18.7 percent year on year. Opened in August 2021 at Jiaozhou to replace the older Liuting site, the airport now runs around 15 dedicated freight services, including its first route to Southeast Asia. SF Airlines and Cargolux are among the carriers calling regularly, and in November 2025 FedEx raised its fifth-freedom Qingdao–Osaka–Memphis rotation to five weekly B777 freighter flights. Since January 2026 a 9610 cross-border e-commerce transfer channel to Japan and South Korea has been running in normal operation, jointly with Shenzhen Airport, which matters for online sellers shipping small parcels out of Shandong. Shippers can choose between freighter capacity and belly cargo on passenger aircraft, trading speed against price. Import and export clearance is handled on site by China Customs; electronics, textiles, seafood and beverages dominate the commodity mix. Road feeder services reach most of Shandong province within a day, and the seaport of Qingdao in the same economic region makes sea-air routings practical. When capacity is tight or a routing is missing, Shanghai Pudong (PVG) and Zhengzhou (CGO) are the usual fallbacks.
