## Description

Three thousand four hundred and ninety metres of runway — Canada's third longest — let Prince George (YXS) handle fully loaded Boeing 747s, and that is the whole point. Sitting in central British Columbia on the great-circle route between Asia and North America, YXS is a long-standing technical and fuel stop for trans-Pacific freighters and a trans-Pacific alternate. Since 2008 it has been approved under the International Air Cargo Transshipment Program, allowing third-country cargo (for example US–Asia) to move through without formal entry into Canada. A 25,000-square-foot warehouse opened in 2015, with eleven truck dock doors and ramp access to speed handling. The airport also supplies northern interior BC's forestry and mining economy, linked by Highways 16 and 97 and the CN rail main line. Air Canada and WestJet handle passenger traffic, mainly to Vancouver and Calgary. For forwarders, YXS is a genuine freight node with customs and transshipment status — unusual for a city this size.
