## Description

Porto Seguro Airport (BPS/SBPS) handled 2,564,297 passengers in 2025, up about 15 percent — yet it remains a holiday gateway with almost no air freight function at all. It serves the Costa do Descobrimento, a UNESCO World Heritage stretch of coast in southern Bahia, sits roughly two kilometres from the town centre and is operated by Sinart. LATAM, Azul, GOL and Aerolíneas Argentinas fly scheduled services, supplemented by heavy seasonal charter traffic that makes Porto Seguro one of Brazil's busiest charter fields. A dedicated cargo terminal, scheduled freighter operations and an on-site air cargo customs office are not confirmed. Shippers are therefore limited to belly capacity on passenger aircraft, in practice courier and small domestic consignments only. Volume freight moves through Salvador (SSA) — about 400 km by air but some 700 km by road — or alternatively Ilhéus (IOS), roughly 250 km to the north.
