## Description

Around 1.75 million passengers passed through Podgorica Airport (IATA: TGD, ICAO: LYPG) in 2025, the busiest year in the Montenegrin capital's aviation history. The airport lies about 11 km south of Podgorica at Golubovci and is the home base of Air Montenegro, while the country's second airport at Tivat serves Adriatic tourism. Air cargo remains a minor part of the picture: there are no scheduled freighter services, most shipments reach Montenegro by road feeder service from Belgrade, Vienna or Istanbul, and capacity out of Podgorica is limited to belly hold on passenger flights. Two developments may shift that: in July 2025 a consortium led by South Korea's Incheon International Airport Corporation won a 30-year concession over Podgorica and Tivat, with logistics group LX Pantos among the partners, and in October 2025 Wizz Air announced a base at TGD with two Airbus A321neo aircraft, adding more than a million seats a year and additional belly capacity with them. Montenegro is not an EU member, so full customs clearance applies; handling agents at the airport offer general cargo, dangerous goods and warehousing. Volume and heavy freight moves through the seaport of Bar, some 50 km away and the terminus of the Belgrade–Bar railway, while a motorway runs north into the hinterland. For genuine freighter capacity, forwarders look to Belgrade (BEG, about 450 km) or Tirana (TIA, about 180 km). The IATA code, incidentally, still recalls Titograd, the city's Yugoslav-era name.
