## Description

Overgrown WWII runways still scar Morotai, the remote northern Maluku island whose air link today is Pitu Airport (OTI), now officially Leo Wattimena Airport. The Allies built a vast airbase here in 1944; the modern field is a modest regional facility linking the island with Ternate and the rest of Indonesia. Its runway has been extended to 2,400 m, with a planned stretch toward 5,100 m under a tourism-development push. Traffic revolves around tourism, administration and island supply rather than freight; there is no cargo terminal or dedicated freight service. Larger air cargo moves through Manado (MDC) or the Makassar (UPG) hub.
