## Description

Phuket International Airport (HKT) is first and foremost a tourism gateway — Thailand's third-busiest airport, feeding the beach resorts of the island — yet it also ranks second nationally for air freight behind Suvarnabhumi. That cargo, however, rides almost entirely in the bellies of international passenger jets rather than on dedicated freighters. Handling is provided by operators including Qantas Freight, with typical exports led by fresh fish and seafood, tropical fruit and consumer goods for the tourism supply chain. Scheduled all-cargo services are the exception here. On the ground, the airport serves the north of the island; there is no rail link, so feeder trucking crosses the Sarasin Bridge to the mainland. The ongoing Phase II expansion aims to lift passenger capacity from 12.5 to 18 million by 2029, indirectly adding belly capacity for freight. For time-critical or high-volume shipments, though, Bangkok remains the reference point.
