## Description

Better known for beach resorts than freight aprons, Phu Quoc International Airport (IATA: PQC, ICAO: VVPQ) is about to grow a serious cargo side. On Vietnam's largest island in Kien Giang province, this 4E airport handles wide-bodies up to the A350 and B787, moving roughly 4 million passengers and about 5,000 tonnes of cargo a year. Today there is no dedicated freighter terminal: air cargo travels as belly capacity, with heavier consignments consolidated through the Tan Son Nhat (SGN) hub in Ho Chi Minh City. Ahead of the APEC 2027 summit, an expansion worth over VND 26.5 trillion (about USD 1.02 billion) across some 1,050 hectares will add a cargo terminal and lift planned capacity to 10 million passengers and 25,000 tonnes of freight by 2030 (18 million passengers and 50,000 tonnes by 2050). For forwarders, the airport's value is chiefly the export of perishable island goods - seafood, fish sauce and pepper - via connecting flights; customs clearance is handled by Vietnamese authorities in Kien Giang.
