## Description

Around 12,000 tonnes of air cargo in 2024, and a first half of 2025 that added some 1.09 million passengers (up 11% year on year): Phu Bai International Airport (IATA: HUI, ICAO: VVPB) has become more than the gateway to Vietnam's imperial city of Huế. Roughly 15 km southeast of the centre, it served about 2.5 million passengers in 2024 while freight grew on the back of regional trade and e-commerce. As a designated customs airport, HUI clears air cargo on site, and its masterplan envisages a cargo facility of up to 200,000 tonnes in later phases; Terminal 2, opened in 2023, sharply raised overall capacity. Belly capacity comes from domestic carriers Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air and Bamboo Airways serving Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Central Vietnam connects via the QL1 north-south highway and the adjacent rail line, while the Chan May seaport handles heavy ocean freight nearby. Increasingly, HUI also absorbs overflow from the busier Da Nang (DAD), about 100 km to the south.
