## Description

Pavlodar Airport (PWQ) has been closed to all flights since April 2025 for a full runway reconstruction, with operations scheduled to resume in August 2026. Eight kilometres south-east of the Irtysh-river city and ICAO Category I-rated since 2006, it normally serves Air Astana, SCAT and FlyArystan on domestic and CIS routes. Pavlodar itself is an industrial heavyweight — oil refining, an aluminium smelter and ferro-alloy plants fed by the Ekibastuz coal basin — yet most of that heavy output moves by rail and river barge rather than by air. There is no evidence of dedicated freighters or a stand-alone cargo terminal; time-critical goods normally travel as belly cargo on passenger flights. While PWQ is offline, and for customs-cleared air freight generally, forwarders consolidate through Almaty and the Sary-Arka cargo base at Karaganda.
