## Description

Around 468,000 passengers and 2,322 tonnes of cargo passed through Pattimura International Airport (AMQ/WAPP) in 2024, across 4,643 aircraft movements. The principal gateway to Indonesia's Maluku province links the island capital of Ambon with Jakarta, Surabaya and the Makassar (UPG) cargo hub, moving fish, sea cucumber and nutmeg from the Banda Sea largely by air. Freight is handled at a cargo building by ground agents PT Gapura Angkasa and PT Prathita Titan Nusantara, with customs, quarantine and immigration on site. After a prolonged absence of international flights, the transport ministry revoked AMQ's international status in 2024 before reinstating it in 2025. Most cargo travels in the belly of scheduled passenger flights, while bulky consignments go by sea through the port of Ambon.
