## Description

Ringed by Himalayan peaks rising above 5,000 metres, the single 1,985-metre runway at Paro forces pilots into a hand-flown daylight approach that only a small roster of specially certified crews may attempt — and yet this is Bhutan's sole international airport and its only air gateway. Drukair and Bhutan Airlines operate A319, A320neo and ATR aircraft from the field at 2,235 metres elevation, with all freight moving as belly cargo through the Drukair cargo warehouse that handles customs clearance and export. Capacity is deliberately modest: individual packages are capped at 80 kg and 1.4 × 2.43 × 0.65 m, and the warehouse stores no dangerous goods, live animals or perishables. Heavier or outsize consignments cross overland to India via the Phuentsholing border for the ports and airport of Kolkata. For forwarders, PBH is a dependable but small-volume channel best suited to documents, spare parts and high-value shipments.
