## Description

Every Tuesday, two Emirates SkyCargo freighters land at Oslo Gardermoen (IATA: OSL, ICAO: ENGM) for one purpose: salmon. Seafood is Norway's second-largest export after oil and gas, and it defines the airport's cargo profile – around 200,000 tonnes of air freight a year and more than 20 weekly all-cargo flights, many of them dedicated to fish exports bound for Asia, North America and the Gulf. Some 650 tonnes of Norwegian seafood take to the air every day, the bulk of it through Gardermoen, and a new seafood terminal billed as the world's largest is under construction in the adjacent Oslo Airport City. That makes OSL Norway's dominant cargo airport by a wide margin, even if part of the national volume still trucks to the continental hubs in refrigerated trailers. On the passenger side, the airport – opened in 1998 to replace Fornebu – handles around 29 million travellers a year and serves as the home base of Norwegian and a key SAS station. Ground access is comprehensive: the E6 and E16 motorways pass the field, a rail station sits beneath the terminal, and the Flytoget express reaches central Oslo, about 50 kilometres south, in 19 minutes. Unbroken cool chains from fjord to freighter deck are the airport's daily routine.
