## Description

Amerijet International and FedEx Express anchor the freight side of Norman Manley International Airport (KIN/MKJP), Jamaica's principal gateway for air cargo and business travel, with IBC Airways and belly capacity from Caribbean Airlines, American, Copa, Air Canada and British Airways filling out the offer. The airport occupies the Palisadoes spit some 19 km south of New Kingston, immediately alongside Kingston Harbour, which makes air-sea combinations unusually straightforward. It has been run under concession by Mexico's Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico since 2019, while Sangster International (MBJ) in Montego Bay carries the larger passenger load. Miami is the dominant transhipment point for onward movement into the Americas. Exports centre on perishables — ackee, yams, seafood — plus craft goods and light manufactured items, while imports skew towards spare parts, pharmaceuticals and e-commerce parcels. Clearance is handled by the Jamaica Customs Agency through the ASYCUDA electronic system. A roughly US$72 million runway extension and rehabilitation programme including runway end safety areas started in 2025, and cargo volumes picked up in early 2025 on the back of agricultural and manufacturing exports. The Kingston Freeport container terminal next door and Sangster International about 180 road kilometres away are the obvious alternatives depending on mode and destination.
