## Description

Inbound consumer goods, capital equipment, pharmaceuticals and mining project cargo fill most of the freight moving through Ndjili (FIH), the busiest air-cargo terminal in the DR Congo, about 25 km east of central Kinshasa. Wide-body services are flown by Ethiopian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Kenya Airways, Turkish Airlines, EgyptAir, Royal Air Maroc and Uganda Airlines, and since 2024 the new national carrier Air Congo - a joint venture with Ethiopian Airlines - has been building its network from here. Ground handling runs around the clock through operators including the ISAGO-certified Menzies Aviation. Belly capacity on the scheduled network, plus freighter operators such as Astral Aviation and Ethiopian Cargo, carries the import-led traffic; unlike the country's mineral exports, which largely leave via Lubumbashi (FBM), Kinshasa is primarily an import gateway. Customs clearance runs through the DGDA (Direction Générale des Douanes et Accises) and the Office Congolais de Contrôle. On the landside the Congo River does the heavy lifting: the Kinshasa river port and the rail line to Matadi link freight to the Atlantic seaport roughly 150 km downstream. Ethiopian recently marked 50 years of flights to Kinshasa, underlining Addis Ababa's role as the main connecting point for Congolese air cargo. Weak roads paired with strong inland-waterway links keep the airport indispensable for time-critical shipments.
