## Description

Half a million tonnes of annual cargo capacity from day one: Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI) opened for commercial operations on 25 December 2025 with freight ambitions matched by few new airports worldwide. Operated by Adani Airport Holdings, the greenfield site is designed to scale to 3.2 million tonnes per year in its final phase. The domestic cargo terminal covers 33,000 m² and the international terminal 23,700 m², both featuring semi-automated handling and dedicated cold-chain zones for pharmaceuticals, perishables and e-commerce. In February 2026, FedEx broke ground on a fully automated air cargo facility of roughly 300,000 sq ft, backed by a ₹2,500 crore investment. The location is a logistics asset in itself: Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), India's largest container port, lies nearby, and the Atal Setu sea bridge links the site to Mumbai. NMI is set to absorb a growing share of cargo from the congested Mumbai airport (BOM). For forwarders, the combination of airfreight, deep-sea port and express network in one corridor is unique in India.
