## Description

NNM and ULAM identify Naryan-Mar Airport, the air gateway to the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, an oil- and gas-rich Arctic region of northwest Russia. Sitting 3 km east of the town near the Pechora estuary, this mixed civil-military field is the only major airfield on the Barents Sea coast between Arkhangelsk and Novaya Zemlya. With no year-round road to the national highway network, the town depends on air links: RusLine serves Saint Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Kazan and other cities, while UTair flies to Moscow Vnukovo; the airport handled about 183,000 passengers in 2017. Air freight moves as belly cargo on scheduled flights and via Mi-8 helicopters that resupply remote settlements and oil and gas fields — there are no dedicated freighter services. Bulk goods arrive by river and sea in summer or route through Arkhangelsk (ARH) cargo airport, roughly 1,000 km to the southwest.
