## Description

Just 5 kilometres separate the runway from the city centre — few major European airports sit closer to their city than Naples Capodichino (IATA: NAP, ICAO: LIRN). Around 12.65 million passengers in 2024 make it southern Italy's busiest airport, carried by easyJet, Ryanair and Wizz Air, plus seasonal US routes. Freight plays a supporting role — about 9,500 tonnes in 2024: belly and express consignments move through a cargo area with customs clearance, while larger regional volumes truck to Rome or Milan. The aviation ecosystem on the field is the real story: Atitech, one of Europe's largest independent MRO providers, overhauls aircraft at Capodichino, and the Campania region hosts an aerospace cluster including Leonardo plants. Operator GESAC belongs to the F2i network and is also developing Salerno. Road access runs via the Naples ring road; an extension of metro Line 1 to the airport is under construction. The site began life in 1910 as a parade ground — making it one of Italy's oldest active airfields.
