## Description

Set in the western Yangtze River Delta, between Shanghai and the Anhui hinterland, Nanjing Lukou is the freight reference point of Jiangsu, one of China's biggest export provinces. Import and export cargo passed the 100,000-tonne mark in 2025, up 33 percent year on year, within a total throughput running at roughly 40,000 tonnes of cargo and mail per month. The 4F airport operates two runways and two terminals, and the provincial government has made expanding international air cargo capacity an explicit policy goal. Electronics, machinery and chemicals from the surrounding industrial belt provide the base load, topped up by fast-growing cross-border e-commerce. Customs and bonded facilities are established on site, complemented by the Nanjing Comprehensive Bonded Zone. The city also runs one of the largest inland river ports on the Yangtze, making air-river-sea combinations a realistic option. For very large intercontinental volumes Shanghai Pudong remains first choice, but Nanjing keeps gaining ground as a direct and relief option.
