## Description

MCT is the three-letter code for Muscat International (ICAO: OOMS), the Sultanate of Oman's principal gateway, home base of Oman Air and the handling point for roughly 200,000 tonnes of air cargo a year. Its freight terminal is run by Transom Cargo, a joint venture between Oman's Transom group and Singapore's SATS, serving Oman Air, Salam Air and more than thirty international airlines. Opened in 2018 to replace the former Seeb facility, the airport added substantial belly and freighter handling capacity, including temperature-controlled zones for pharmaceuticals and chilled seafood and a dedicated live-animal facility. Oman Air Cargo is expanding in 2026 with new services from Muscat to Singapore, Tashkent, Sochi and Abu Dhabi plus a Salalah–Dubai link, and is evaluating partnerships with freighter operators for Asia–Africa–Europe flows routed through Muscat. The Batinah Expressway connects the site to the industrial north and the deep-water port of Sohar. As a customs airport with bonded warehousing, Muscat anchors national airfreight, while heavy tonnage increasingly moves through Sohar and Duqm; shippers with very large consignments often route via Dubai (DXB/DWC) or Abu Dhabi (AUH). Its position on the Gulf of Oman places it outside the Strait of Hormuz, on an alternative maritime corridor valued for resilience.
