## Description

For much of West Africa's import and export trade, Lagos is the decisive air gateway, and Murtala Muhammed International in Ikeja is Nigeria's busiest airport by far. Cargo is handled on the ground by two large operators, NAHCO and SAHCO, whose warehouses process perishable agricultural exports, general freight and oil-and-gas equipment. Integrators such as DHL and intercontinental freight carriers serve the field, though ramp space currently caps throughput and an expanded cargo terminal is in planning. In 2025 the Federal Airports Authority (FAAN) resumed collecting cargo revenue directly at the NAHCO and SAHCO sheds after a 15-year gap. A real advantage is proximity to the Apapa and Tin Can Island seaports, letting forwarders combine sea and air consignments within greater Lagos. Road links feed the hinterland, although the city's heavy congestion can stretch delivery times. Customs clearance and bonded warehousing are concentrated here, reinforcing Lagos as Nigeria's primary cargo airport. For shippers across the sub-region, LOS remains the reference point for long-haul freight.
