## Description

Rated for roughly 10,000 tonnes a year, the cargo complex at Multan International Airport (MUX) was built in 2015 to move southern Punjab's perishable exports — above all the region's celebrated mangoes — by air. Serving Multan, the historic 'City of Saints', the airport links the area with Karachi, Islamabad and several Gulf destinations favoured by labour migrants. Actual throughput, however, has stayed far below that design figure, recently amounting to only a few tonnes a year as international freight remains thin. Cold-storage facilities for perishables are in place to support the seasonal mango and citrus campaigns. By road, the field connects to the national N-5 highway and the M-5 (Multan–Sukkur) motorway. For forwarders, Multan is best treated as a seasonal perishables point whose capacity still outstrips its current use.
