## Description

Sago and coastal fisheries shape the economy around Mukah on Sarawak's Melanau coast, though their output mostly reaches market by road and water rather than by air. A new airport built for about 300 million ringgit replaced the town's old strip in 2009, seven kilometres out of town. Since January 2026 the Sarawak state carrier AirBorneo has flown the route — taking over the former MASwings services — using ATR 72 and Twin Otter aircraft chiefly toward Sibu, Kuching and Miri, with traffic staying small and local. There is no freight terminal; air cargo travels as belly load on the scheduled services. Forwarders with larger volumes clear them through Sibu or Miri, both of which offer genuine cargo handling.
