## Description

An international airport with no flights is a planning problem rather than an option: Muan International Airport (MWX/RKJB) in south-western South Korea has been closed since the Jeju Air Flight 2216 accident on 29 December 2024 and remained shut in 2026 pending site preservation, facility repair and the resumption of operations. For air freight this means no bookable capacity at present, neither belly nor maindeck. Even before the closure the airport was marginal for cargo, recording about 246,000 passengers and just 1,484 tonnes of freight in 2023. It was built to serve Jeollanam-do province and the Gwangju region as an international passenger gateway, and that is the role it is expected to resume rather than a cargo one. Shippers in south-western Korea therefore route air freight through Incheon (ICN), Korea's dominant cargo airport, accepting roughly four to five hours of road feeder service. Gimhae at Busan (PUS) is the closer option for the south-east and is often combined with the Port of Busan for sea-air services. No confirmed reopening date has been published, so current status should be verified before planning any shipment.
