## Description

Muan International (MWX) in South Jeolla province has been closed since 29 December 2024, when a Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 crashed on landing; the suspension has been extended repeatedly and remains in force as of June 2026, with no confirmed reopening date. Opened in 2007 to give the Gwangju/Mokpo region an international airport, the field consistently operated far below capacity. Even before the closure there was no meaningful air cargo infrastructure on site. Forwarders serve the region through Incheon (ICN) for international air freight, while sea freight moves through the nearby ports of Gwangyang and Mokpo. Expressways link Muan with Gwangju and Korea's southwest. Any resumption of operations depends on the conclusion of the accident investigation and the rebuilding of runway-end infrastructure.
