## Description

A former military airfield rather than a purpose-built freight gateway, Mitiga (MJI/HLLM), some eight kilometres east of central Tripoli, now handles virtually all scheduled traffic for the Libyan capital after the old Tripoli International (TIP) was wrecked during the civil war. That makes it Libya's busiest airport, but not a cargo hub: it has no dedicated freight terminal of the kind found at larger regional cargo airports. Air freight moves mainly as belly cargo on passenger aircraft, supplemented by charter and relief flights; regular freighter services by international cargo airlines are not confirmed. Mitiga is served by connections to roughly 17 destinations in twelve countries, concentrated on Türkiye, North Africa and the Gulf.
