## Description

Washington has moved, Brussels has not: in November 2025 the US Treasury lifted its OFAC sanctions on Belarus's Belavia, following a September 2025 general licence and the release of 52 political prisoners, yet the European Union has so far declined to follow. For Minsk National Airport (IATA: MSQ, ICAO: UMMS), about 42 kilometres east of the capital, that leaves the picture only half-changed: Belarusian carriers remain barred from the EU and European airlines still avoid Belarusian airspace. Home carrier Belavia, which introduced three Airbus A330-200s in June 2025, concentrates on Russia, Turkey, the Gulf states, Central Asia and China – and it is through those hubs, Istanbul and Dubai above all, that most Belarusian air freight now moves.
