## Description

While Rostov and Krasnodar have stayed closed to civil flights since February 2022, Mineralnye Vody Airport (IATA: MRV, ICAO: URMM) has remained open throughout — and carried almost five million passengers in 2024, up from about 2.4 million in 2018, ranking ninth among Russian airports. Four kilometres west of its namesake town in Stavropol Krai, MRV is the principal air gateway to the North Caucasus and the Caucasus Mineral Waters spa region (Pyatigorsk, Kislovodsk, Yessentuki). A terminal opened in 2011, joined by a new domestic terminal in May 2025, offers 41 aircraft stands, and the runway accepts wide-bodies up to the Boeing 747-400. Air cargo moves mainly as belly freight on passenger services and is handled by private contractors; MRV is not a dedicated freighter hub. On the ground, the R-217 "Kavkaz" trunk road and the Mineralnye Vody rail junction tie the airport into the regional network.
