## Description

Up to 2.5 tonnes of freight plus 50 passengers per flight: Ryukyu Air Commuter's Q400 cargo-combi aircraft — RAC was the type's launch customer in 2016 — give Minamidaito Airport (MMD) a genuine cargo function rare among small Japanese islands. Some 360 km east of Okinawa's main island, Minamidaito has no usable natural harbour; ships are loaded and unloaded by crane over steep cliffs, which makes the air link essential. Inbound flights carry food, mail, medicine and spare parts, while sugar-cane-related produce heads out. RAC connects the island daily with Naha and neighbouring Kitadaito. Larger consignments and international freight are handled at Naha (OKA).
