## Description

The IATA code says AZA, the ICAO code still says KIWA – a leftover from Williams Air Force Base, which trained Air Force pilots here until 1993. Today Phoenix-Mesa Gateway is chasing Arizona's boldest cargo project: SkyBridge, the first US air cargo hub to host American and Mexican customs officers on one site through the Unified Cargo Processing programme, aimed squarely at e-commerce flows into Mexico and Latin America. Tonnage is still modest and the warehouses are going up, but foreign-trade-zone status and three parallel runways – the longest at 10,400 feet – are already in place. On the passenger side, Allegiant dominates with dozens of low-cost routes and around two million travellers a year. Forwarders working the Mexico lane should keep this field on the radar.
