## Description

Set in the gas-rich Mary province, home to the giant Galkynysh field, Mary International Airport (MYP) ranks among Turkmenistan's three largest airports. A two-storey, 3,500-square-metre terminal opened in 2009 lifted it from provincial to international status. Traffic is predominantly domestic and passenger-led, and no dedicated air cargo terminal is documented. Substantial freight from the region is therefore best consolidated through the Ashgabat cargo hub. The nearby ruins of ancient Merv, a UNESCO World Heritage site, mark one of the great cities of the Silk Road.
