## Description

Pipelines, storage tanks and tanker berths, not baggage carousels, define the working landscape around Marsa Brega Airport on Libya's Gulf of Sidra. The field lies about three kilometres south of the industrial port town of Brega and exists chiefly to serve the oil and gas sector. The local complex is run by the Sirte Oil Company, a subsidiary of the state National Oil Corporation; crude has flowed here through Libya's first pipeline since 1961, joined later by LNG and ammonia plants. The real freight artery, though, is the sea: hydrocarbons leave the country through the loading terminals of Marsa el Brega, while the airport mainly moves oil-industry personnel. There is no significant air cargo of its own, and the LNG facility has latterly been mothballed. General air freight for the area is handled through Benina near Benghazi.
