## Description

Cuenca's Azuay province is a manufacturing pocket of the Andes – toquilla-straw 'Panama' hats, ceramics and tyres – yet little of it leaves by air from Mariscal Lamar Airport (CUE). Sitting above 2,500 metres on a runway of barely 1,900 metres, the field is hemmed into the city and limited to domestic links with Quito and Guayaquil. There is no meaningful cargo terminal; regional exports are trucked to Guayaquil for onward air or sea shipment. A recently installed ILS has improved bad-weather reliability for the passenger flights that are its mainstay.
