## Description

Unlike the Dominican Republic's busy resort airports, María Montez International Airport (BRX) sees little traffic: as of 2024 it had no regular scheduled service. Serving the southwestern port city of Barahona — and named after the locally born film star María Montez — it lies about 3 km north of town and chiefly handles charter, regional and business flights. There is no dedicated cargo terminal; air freight for the Barahona region routes through Las Américas (SDQ) in the capital. The nearby port of Barahona covers seaborne cargo such as gypsum and regional farm produce. For forwarders, BRX is a passenger and general-aviation field without a standalone cargo function.
