## Description

Goa waited decades for a second airport, and since January 2023 Manohar International at Mopa (GOX/VOGA) has taken over as the state's principal gateway, some 35 km north of Panaji. In the financial year running April 2025 to March 2026 it handled roughly 2,986 tonnes of air cargo alongside about 5.3 million passengers. Practically all of that freight moves as belly cargo in the holds of passenger aircraft operated by IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, Akasa Air and SpiceJet, plus international carriers Qatar Airways and flydubai; no scheduled freighter services are confirmed. The airport is run by the GMR group, whose phase-two plan adds a second runway, capacity for 25 million passengers and an enlarged cargo terminal. Road access runs via national highway NH-66, linking Mopa northwards towards Mumbai and southwards through Goa and coastal Karnataka. For multimodal shipments, Mormugao port is the obvious complement on the sea side. Shippers with time-critical or heavy consignments generally route through Mumbai (BOM), where freighter capacity, bonded warehousing and customs infrastructure are far deeper. Dabolim (GOI) remains useful for domestic connections and Mangaluru (IXE) covers southern Karnataka.
