## Description

Unlike the busy fields near Islamabad, Mangla Airport (XJM) carries no scheduled passenger or freight traffic at all; it functions as a military and government airstrip. It lies in northern Punjab beside the Mangla Dam — one of the world's largest earth-fill dams — and its reservoir, close to the boundary with Azad Kashmir. There is no cargo terminal and no commercial handling on site. Forwarders with air freight bound for the Mirpur district route shipments through Islamabad International (ISB), about 120 km west, or via Sialkot (SKT) and its established cargo operation. The surrounding district is best known for its strong ties to the Pakistani community in Britain.
