## Description

At just three feet above sea level, Makemo Airport (MKP) occupies one of the larger atolls of the Tuamotu chain, about 580 kilometres northeast of Tahiti. A single coral runway connects the main village to Air Tahiti's ATR services from Papeete. Pearl farming and copra drive the local economy, and their modest volumes leave the atoll as belly cargo or aboard inter-island supply schooners. The airport has no freight terminal and is not cargo-capable. Shippers route air consignments through Tahiti Faa'a (PPT), the territory's only long-haul hub.
