## Description

Roughly 13,900 kg inbound and 5,060 kg outbound on a single Boeing 737-300F marked the restart of cargo operations at Maiquetía Simón Bolívar International Airport (CCS/SVMI) on 5 August 2026, after a 42-day shutdown. Two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck the La Guaira coast on 24 June 2026, cracking the main runway 10R/28L and forcing commercial traffic to divert to Arturo Michelena Airport in Valencia (VLN), about 160 km west. The airport stayed partly open throughout as a military and humanitarian air bridge, using an alternate runway that escaped structural damage. It is run by the state-owned Instituto Autónomo del Aeropuerto Internacional de Maiquetía, and the cargo and international terminals are being remodelled and expanded. Passenger services were expected back from late August 2026, with around 85% of previous capacity targeted for December 2026, so capacity and slots should be verified before booking. The site lies on the Caribbean coast at Maiquetía, just over 20 km from Caracas via the Caracas–La Guaira motorway, and sits next to the seaport of La Guaira, which makes sea-air routings realistic. Vensecar Internacional, the Caracas-based cargo carrier that used CCS as its base, ceased operations on 11 June 2025.
