## Description

Long overshadowed by neighbouring Hong Kong, Macau International Airport (MFM) has quietly rebuilt its freight business: 108,107 tonnes moved through in 2024, up 69 percent year on year and the strongest result since 2007. Built on reclaimed land off Taipa Island, the airport plugs into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area road network via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. The rebound is driven largely by cross-border e-commerce, for which Macau's status as a separate customs territory offers its own clearance channel. Cargo on the ground is handled by Macau Aviation Services Company (MASC), with Menzies Aviation also operating at the field. An 8,000-square-metre warehouse houses customs and plant-and-animal inspection inside the cargo terminal, keeping clearance steps under one roof. The runway accepts widebody freighters up to the Boeing 747F and Antonov An-124, so outsized and project loads are feasible. For forwarders, MFM works best as a relief and feeder point alongside the larger hubs at Hong Kong (HKG) and Guangzhou (CAN).
