## Description

Opened in 1970 and rebuilt with a new terminal in 2019, Macapá–Alberto Alcolumbre International Airport (MCP) is the air lifeline of Amapá, one of Brazil's most isolated states. Almost exactly on the Equator, the city has only a partly paved northbound highway (BR-156) and relies heavily on the Santana river port, which makes air links to Belém, São Paulo and Brasília unusually important. LATAM, Azul and GOL provide the scheduled service, and their belly holds carry the perishables, medicines and spare parts the region depends on. MCP is not an integrator freighter hub, however; large air-cargo volumes are consolidated through Belém (BEL) in neighbouring Pará. Operated by the Novo Norte consortium, it functions for forwarders as an essential regional supply gateway rather than a freight centre.
